Windows for a Cause is Helping a Local Veteran

This year with Windows for a Cause, we are bringing the community together to help John Green, a local, wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran.

At Tundraland Home Improvement, we constantly find ways to interact with and help our local community. Each year Tundraland replaces more than 12,000 windows for its customers, and instead of throwing out the removed windows, we put them aside for our annual Windows for a Cause event. Local artists, community leaders, and organizations are given these windows and asked to reflect on the question, “When you look through your window, how do you see the community?” The recycled windows are then turned into beautiful works of art that are auctioned off to raise money for a local person in need.

John served on a Washington military base as well as in the National Guard before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1974. With the money this event raises, we will purchase a specialized wheelchair that will allow Green to stand for the first time in 40 years! Green says, “I’m anxious to see how it will work. I can’t imagine what it will be like. It’s been a long time.”

We are thankful for all of the wonderful Windows for a Cause participants including:

  • Cory Chisel
  • John Bergstrom
  • Members of the Green Bay Packers
  • Green Bay Gamblers
  • Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
  • the offices of Mayor Schmitt of Green Bay
  • Mayor Hanna of Appleton
  • WBAY
  • WFRV
  • WLUK
  • NBC26
  • 91.1 The Avenue
  • Appleton Post-Crescent
  • Fox Valley Chamber of Commerce
  • A.D.I.
  • students from local high schools
  • Neenah-Menasha YMCA
  • and many others!

The owner of Tundraland Home Improvements, Brian Gottlieb, expresses his appreciation for the support the community has provided. “It’s cool that everybody has just risen to the occasion and wants to participate in this. It’s really, I’m just, you know, I’m grateful.”

The Windows for a Cause auction event is being held on Wednesday, May 25th at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton. A silent auction is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:30pm, and a live auction from 7:30-8:30pm. The event is open to anyone who is interested.  If you would like more details, please Contact Us!
