The History of Jacuzzi®

Picture of a beautiful new bathtub. The name “Jacuzzi” has become synonymous with top-of-the-line bathroom products, but have you ever stopped to consider the origins of this respected brand? This article contains all the information you need to know.

Who Were the Jacuzzis?

Originally from Italy, the Jacuzzi family immigrated to California in the early 1900s. After arriving in the United States, the Jacuzzis worked as inventors for a number of years and earned recognition for developing the world’s first submersible pump. This pump—which was designed to pull water from the ground—helped pave the way toward today’s Jacuzzi bath products.

The History of Hydromassage

Humans have been using heated water for thousands of years to promote health and relaxation. But it was the Jacuzzi family who pioneered the use of hydromassage. In 1956, in an effort to relieve a family member’s rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, the Jacuzzis invented a portable hydrotherapy pump that could turn any bathtub into a spa (the J-300).

Just over a decade later, the family went on to develop the world’s first integrated whirlpool bath. In 1968, Roy Jacuzzi created the Roman bathtub, which featured integrated jets along with a 50-50 air-to-water ratio. Since that time, Jacuzzi bath products have continued evolving to meet customers’ needs.
